Sony Ericsson K800i

I thought of doing a thought provoking post today but I was too lazy to organize my material. Instead, this post will be about my new mobile phone. A review.
-------
Puzzling thoughts about the process of purchasing a new mobile phone.
I do not understand why people are satisfied with touching and feeling a dummy phone displayed at most retailers. If all they want to do is look at the design and dimensions of the product, a quick search on the net is all that is required. Besides, a mobile phone is an expensive product, so why won't the retailers display a fully functioning mobile phone for potential clients to touch, feel and experience both hardware and software? It matters a little less to me because I understand all the technical mumbo jumbo but I do not think the same holds true for many others. It really puzzles me that anyone would be willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a product after merely looking at it.
-------
Doing research was rather easy. Most - if not all - of the information is available on the internet. My options were Nokia N73, Samsung SGH D900 and Sony Ericsson K800i. I was initially very attracted to the slim Samsung phone but the pragmatic part of me overpowered the vain part of me. It is a well establish fact that flip phones and sliding phones do not last as long as candy-bar phones. For one simple reason - it has moving parts.
-------
Let me digress a little: the same reasoning can be said for hard drives (HD), that's why flash drives are the 'in' thing right now because unlike the HD, it has no moving parts, hence it is more reliable, and also more expensive.
-------
Then I set my sights on the Nokia N73. This phone obtained rave reviews. All the tech magazines - online and offline - praised it like there was no tomorrow. I compared it with the Sony Ericsson and did a cost functionality assessment. Whaddya know, Sony Ericsson came out tops. It had better features and it costs less than the N73. I must admit, the N73 looked better than the K800i, but it cost S$200 more. Enuff said.
-------
Being a Nokia user all this while, I had some apprehension about adapting to SonyE's software, but all my worries melted away after the first day. The software is quite dummy-proof. Sony Ericsson has won me over. For it's full specs, click here, for reviews, google it yourself.

Well I have the same problem as yourself and looked at the same phones. But i just wanted to mention that they are quite different!

just to be clear I currently own a SE S700i (swivel phone) for 2 years and I am quite happy with the build quality as the UI.

First of all they have great camera's, but these are the things that stand out for me.

SE K800i
Solid UI
Real Flash

Nokia N73
Smart phone -> lot's of software
Can do car navigation
Can do video at 352x288 at 15fps
Real Flash

Samsung D900
Nice UI, although not as feature full as other phones
Can do video at 352x288 at 15fps
Very slim design
tv-out

I really want to make "good video" and the N93 is just to ugly. So at the moment I tend to go for the D900. I would have gone for the k800 in a heart beat if it weren't for it's crappy video...

It's always something...
