For That I am Grateful #1 - Mr Cane
As Promised, I'm starting a new column titled 'For That I am Grateful'. There is one very important thing that I was taught in church over the years, and that is to cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude. It seems that the ideology that our forefathers have embraced, this concept of being grateful to others, is no longer very common in our generation. My pastor tells us to be grateful for the BIG things as well as the small things. This attitude he says has got to be nurtured for it most certainly isn't innate. So here in this column, I will pen memories of the past and present, memories that I am grateful for.
-------
I remembered...
The time when I managed to dodge Chinese homework for an entire semester. After a spot check, my parents were called to school despite my tearful pleas to my teacher. After the meeting, I was 'dragged' home to face Mr Cane as I affectionately called the tool used for chastening. I was 'chastened' good but I knew that my dad's heart bled with every tear I shed. Needless to say, I became very diligent when it comes to my Chinese homework after that. Somehow that painful memory stuck with me.
